How can Sylvie Bernier be presented in just a few words? Her multifaceted path has been marked by excellence in her professional life and success in her personal life.
A native of Sainte-Foy, Québec, Sylvie Bernier won Canada’s first ever gold medal in diving in the 3m springboard event at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is, to this day, the only Canadian to have received this honour. She is also the first Canadian to be inducted into the International Aquatics Hall of Fame.
After her illustrious athletic career, Sylvie Bernier earned a degree in business administration and worked in broadcasting as a reporter on the morning show Salut Bonjour for over 15 years, and as a commentator and host of several other television and radio programs, including Olympic Games coverage from 1988 to 2004. In the fall of 2009, she began a Master’s degree at McGill University in the health field.
She is the recipient of the Order of Canada and the National Order of Quebec. Mother of three teenage girls, Sylvie is also an accomplished businesswoman, acting as spokesperson or administrator of prestigious companies such as Investors Group, for the last 20 years, and Glaxo SmithKline. She is on the Board of Directors of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation-Canada.
Already successful in her role as Assistant Chef de Mission during the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, she extended her Olympic career as a volunteer at the 2008 Games in Beijing, China. As Chef de Mission, her main responsibility was to provide overall leadership to the Canadian Olympic Team.
